Hazardous Materials Shipping (DOT) - 4 hours (8am-12pm)

Companies shipping, receiving and/or transporting hazardous materials and/or hazardous wastes via highway public transport must ensure their employees are trained in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) 49 CFR 172 regulations and requirements. This training course includes discussion and hands-on activities for the identification of hazardous materials, how to use the Hazardous Materials Table in 49 CFR 172.101, the hazard classes, standards for packaging, marking, and labeling, completion of shipping papers, placards, and safety and security requirements.

Students will receive classroom, instructor-led training with discussion on topics including:

  • Understanding the regulations and requirements
  • Identifying hazardous materials, limited quantity materials, materials of trade and hazardous waste
  • Utilizing the Hazardous Materials Table and develop proper shipping descriptions
  • Completing hazardous materials and hazardous waste manifests and bills of lading
  • Determining proper hazard labels and placards for shipments
  • Determining proper packaging for shipping of hazardous materials and hazardous waste
  • Identifying DOT safety and emergency response requirements
  • Understanding DOT security requirements

 

Hazardous Waste Management (RCRA) - 4 hours (1pm-5pm)

The training course is required for individuals responsible for ensuring compliance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) hazardous waste generator regulations under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 40 CFR 262 hazardous waste generator regulations. This includes any employee who generates, packages, labels, documents, inspects or ships hazardous waste. This course is designed for Small Quantity and Large Quantity Generators (SQG/LQG) of hazardous waste but can be beneficial for Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQG).

Students will receive classroom, instructor-led training with discussion on topics including:

  • Understanding the regulations and requirements under federal RCRA
  • Identifying solid waste and hazardous waste stream classifications
  • Identifying characteristic and listed waste determinations
  • Determining VSQG, SQG and LQG generator requirements
  • Understanding maintenance and storage requirements for hazardous waste
  • Conducting inspections of satellite accumulation and hazardous waste storage areas
  • Discussing emergency response and contingency plans
  • Determining RCRA and DOT hazardous waste shipping and disposal requirements
  • Understanding recordkeeping and reporting regulations

The fee includes all materials needed to complete this course.

This includes any employee who generates, packages, labels, documents, inspects or ships hazardous waste. This course is designed for Small Quantity and Large Quantity Generators (SQG/LQG) of hazardous waste but can be beneficial for Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQG).
